West Yorkshire Creative Sector Sustainability Framework & Routemap

In this report SAIL recognises the importance of physical and digital infrastructure to support adoption of circular economy approaches. They set out their vision to address this in West Yorkshire by supporting the development of:

  • Shared physical storage facilities: A managed storage space, with integrated asset management software, which enables organisations to securely store their assets for future use, and where possible, share these with other stakeholders. Inventory and asset management systems

  • A digital system with which users can have a centralised view of owned of managed assets, catalogued on the location, history, condition and dates of maintenance. Understanding what assets are already owned reduced by both individual organisations, and the broader sector, reduces consumption by eliminating duplication or the unuse, or underuse, of resources.

  • Reuse facilities including rental, borrowing, hire (for ongoing reuse): a facility offering the rental, borrowing, and sharing of props, costumes, sets, exhibition infrastructure and other assets owned by creative organisations.

  • Physical disassembly, reuse and recycling for end-of-life facility: providing full clearances and the repurposing, modification, redirection or disassembly of materials into constituent components, in order to avoid disposal.

  • Online national & local reuse platform: An online platform that provides a ‘give and take’ solution for assets that are underused, facilitating natural exchange, lending and donation to a closed or open group of organisations and individuals. The life of items is extended, providing a sustainable and time efficient alternative to purchasing new assets.
