ReCollective

ReCollective are a not-for-profit, setting new standards of re-use for the film industry to tackle the enormous amount of waste it produces. They redirect construction materials away from waste streams and towards communities. They repurpose “waste” components of construction, such as timber lengths, sheets and materials, providing built community infrastructure, such as community buildings, artist studios and growers barns, that enhance social value, locks in carbon and empowers existing communities to push for societal change.
Their network of collaborators and members work alongside network partners to create systemic changes around attitudes towards ‘waste’ materials, measuring their impact on tonnage of material and carbon diverted from waste streams, as well as number of projects empowered by material.
Focusing on “Anticipatory design” they audit and track material to prioritise use of reclaimed resources already in stock to form the material palette for designs. They undertake material and systems research, offer guidance around designing with reclaimed materials, work alongside communities and push policy and sustainable design guidance to reduce waste as a whole by proving its reuse value. Notably they won the Planet Positive Award 2025, awarded by British Film Designers Guild, for diverting 8.3 tonnes of materials from TV show “My Lady Jane” to enable community projects across the UK.
