Circular Margate

Circular Margate is a project conceived by Bon Volks Studio and based on a pilot launched at the Turner Contemporary gallery in 2023. They prioritise intervention and redirection of unwanted construction materials from within the creative sector to community and social initiatives in Margate. The project aims to respond to the circular economy by not thinking of material waste as a commercial asset, which is re-inserted into an existing economic system, but as a social asset that can be used to catalyse any number of projects which benefit a community. The reimagining of these materials as social assets catalyses a wide range of activities that create lasting social value, empowering local community organisations and fostering positive, sustainable change.
They currently collect materials from clients and are working to establish a Materials Hub in Margate to enable wider capacity to collect surplus materials from a range of sectors and prioritise reuse and redistribution. The Hub will provide a space for education, skills development, and employment, while simultaneously contributing to Kent and the UK’s climate targets by reducing waste, promoting sustainability and embedding circular principles.
